A rewarding career is waiting for you as a granite countertop contractor.  Commercial and residential spaces across the state of Georgia are switching to the most durable and visually appealing countertops on the market – granite.  Throughout the US, the countertop industry rakes in over 5 billion dollars every year and is project to grow by more than 6.5% in 2016.  Countertop production and installation is a booming business and granite is leading the way as one of the most popular products for kitchens, bars, restaurants, and patios.

Job Description

The process of producing, transporting, and installing large slabs of granite is no easy task, so the skills that contractors learn on the job are extremely practical. Applicants are expected to have a high degree of proficiency with quality control, industrial tools, and technical measuring.  While experience is generally preferred, qualified candidates that lack these skills can also gain training in the first few weeks of employment.

The granite installation process starts with detailed communication with a client, who may range from a local homeowner to a large-scale commercial builder.  As one of the largest granite-producing states, Georgia extracts as much as 50,000 metric tons of granite each year.  A countertop company will order a shipment from a partnered supplier and then begin resurfacing and finishing the stone to the client’s specifications.

A granite countertop company will usually have its own warehouse filled with industrial cutting and resizing tools that all technicians will need to know how to use precisely. Because measurements are so important, it is imperative that counterpart manufacturers impart a great deal of care in their work, as these countertops are not just a surface, but a stone-made work of art.

Countertop technicians will learn how to transform a slab of rock into a fully functional kitchen surface, complete with accessories like sinks, ornate edging designs, and stunning resurfacing colors. Achieving the redesign expectations of a client requires a commitment from every team member, from transportation to installation, so applicants must possess strong interpersonal skills and a desire to work in a team setting.
